AIMS

Good instruments enhance the qualities of those who play them.

The Premio “Francesco Geminiani” was instituted precisely starting from this idea, in order to award four instruments of the High Italian Stringed Instruments Production to as many young musicians.

The Premio was dedicated to Francesco Geminiani, an 18th- century violinist and composer native of Lucca, also known for being the author of a famous treaty on didactics and violin playing technique.

Such idea rose from the desire to make something concrete for those who face with serious intentions the difficult field of musical art; the same idea developed starting from the knowledge of each musician’s need to play an instrument being up to his/her own skills.

A young musician does not always have at his/her disposal the chance to play good quality instruments and he/she cannot be thoroughly valued for his/her potentials, which he/she could further develop, if he/she faces all this with an instrument which is not in a condition to stress all the characteristics of the player – when he/she is about to get a diploma, to take part in competitions or just to refine his/her technique and musicianship.

The Premio "Francesco Geminiani" places at the disposal of its young competitors four instruments of the High Italian Stringed Instrument Production, namely: two violins, a viola and a cello.

Winners will use the instruments in gratuitous bailment for two years, so as to allow them to show their talent.

The idea developed by the Premio "Francesco Geminiani" had never been conceived before in Italy and the encouragement as well as the participation received since the competition’s first edition confirmed the value of this initiative.

The prize has obtained the sponsorship of the "Accademia Filarmonica di Verona", one of Italy’s most ancient and prestigious Musical Institutions; it takes place in cooperation with the Conservatorio di Musica "E.F. Dall'Abaco” in Verona and with the Association of the "Friends of the Conservatori di Musica" in Verona.
