The third edition of the Premio "Francesco Geminiani" took place on June 7th - 8th 2008 at Casa Boggian, the branch seat of the "E.F. dall'Abaco Conservatoire" in Verona, Stradone San Fermo, 28.
The Jury was made up as follows:
M° Umberto Forni, Organist, Organ and Organ composition teacher at Verona Conservatoire and Founding Committee of the Prize;
M° Gian Paolo Guatteri, Viola player, Viola Teacher at Milan Conservatoire and Lugano Conservatoire (Italian Switzerland);
M° Alberto Martini, Violinist, Violin Teacher at Trento Conservatoire and first violin of the "I Virtuosi Italiani" Orchestra;
M° Taisuke Yamashita, Violoncellist, Violoncello Teacher at the Conservatoire and First Violoncello of the Radio Orchestra of Lugano (Italian Switzerland);
Dr. Lucio Lombardi, Member of the Founding Committee of the Prize.
Approximately one half of the thirty young musicians (all of whom are under the age of 24 years) were foreigners proceeding from countries like Japan, New Zealand, Colombia, Great Britain and the Eastern European countries.
For the class of violins, the place list was the following:
First place winner: Liù Pelliciari (Reggio Emilia, 1986) who was awarded the violin "Cristina II" made by Master luthier Otello Bignami (Bologna, 1984);
Equal first place winner: Takao Hyakutome (Sapporo, 1984) with honourable mention and invitation to take part in the Concerts organized by the Associazione Premio "Francesco Geminiani";
Third place winner: Olga Kysla (Kiev, 1985), who will receive on a free loan the violin made by Master luthier Genuzio Carletti (Cento, 1985).
For the class of violas:
First place winner: Ainè Suzuki (Tokyo, 1984), who will receive on a gratuitous loan the viola made by Master luthier Celestino Farotto (Milan, 1970);
Second place winner: Sara Marzadori (Bologna, 1991) will use the viola made by Master luthiers Giacomo and Leandro Bisiach (Milan, 1963).
The person who came third is Lukas Kmit (Slovakia, 1987).
For the class of cellos,
the first place winner was Paolo Bonomini (Brescia, 1989), who was assigned the cello by Master luthier Gaetano Vinaccia (Naples, 1886).
Besides, the following cellists were judged fit:
2nd place winner: Amedeo Cicchese (Campobasso, 1988),
3rd place winner: Paul Michael Van Houtte (New Zealand, 1985),
4th place winner: Lora Marinova (Bulgaria, 1985).
The competitors were accompanied on the piano by Maestros Annalisa Londero and Federico Donadoni, who - with their considerable professionalism – contributed to the shining success of the Competition, which took place before an attentive and competent public.
